As I understand it, rote memorization is the simplest form of memorization. It follows the principle: Repeat it enough and it will stick. There is still, however, nuance to it. First of all, it seems clear to me that whet you must repeat is the act of recall. Many techniques make the mistake of repeating recognition instead. There is a difference. Flash cards may be helpful to keep this from being a problem. I’ll also talk about a possible technique for poetry.
Another aspect of rote memorization commonly mistaken is interval. Seconds after recalling or learning a fact, your ability to recall it will be much better than minutes later. Making attempts too close together is not as fruitful as with space, but too far apart is not fruitful either; there is a Goldilocks zone, where your total time spent attempting to memorize a given piece of information is minimized by keeping the frequency of your recollection attempts at a certain pace. This is one of the multiple reasons breaks are an important part of a good studying technique
